About the Walk
What is the World Partnership Walk?
The World Partnership Walk is a movement that brings people together to take action against global poverty. Having grown over 40 years in Canada into the country's largest public event for international development, in 2026 it comes to Australia for the first time.
An initiative of the Aga Khan Foundation, the Walk raises funds to support sustainable, community-led programs improving lives across Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
Why is it called the World Partnership Walk?
The name reflects the Walk's core belief that global challenges like poverty are best addressed through partnership: between communities, organisations, governments and individuals working together across borders.
Every step taken in Sydney on 6th December 2026 will help improve lives in communities around the world.
Who organizes it?
The Walk is organised by Aga Khan Foundation Australia (AKFA), a registered Australian charity. AKFA is part of the Aga Khan Foundation, a global development organisation that has worked to improve quality of life across Africa, Asia and the Middle East for nearly 60 years. Where does the money go?
All funds raised support the Aga Khan Foundation's programs tackling the root causes of poverty across Africa, Asia and the Middle East. This work spans early childhood development, education, health and nutrition, agriculture and food security, work and enterprise, civil society, and climate resilience, with gender equality embedded across all of it.
In 2025, AKF supported more than 13.9 million people, over half of whom were women. That included more than 8.1 million people reached with vital healthcare, while over the past decade AKF has supported an average of more than one million learners each year to access better-quality education.
AKF works alongside communities to design, build and sustain their own solutions, so that progress continues without AKF's ongoing support.

Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes. Donations of $2 or more to AKF Australia are tax deductible. Aga Khan Foundation Australia PBI Limited (ABN: 14 663 402 373) holds Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status with the Australian Taxation Office.

The Event
When and where is the Walk?
The inaugural World Partnership Walk Sydney takes place in Sydney on Sunday 6th December 2026, at the Royal Botanic Garden. The start, finish, and full day of activities will all be on the Tarpeian Lawn.

What will happen on Walk Day?
Walk Day is a celebration with purpose. Participants will gather at the Tarpeian Lawn in the Royal Botanic Garden before setting off along a set route. Full route details will be shared closer to the event.
As this is more than just a walk, there will be a full day of activities including a stage with entertainment, an Aga Khan Foundation exhibition about it’s work, a relaxation zone for family picnics, a kids zone, food trucks, and more.
Will food be available?
Yes. There will be food trucks on site offering a range of options to purchase on the day. You are also welcome to bring your own food and enjoy a picnic in the relaxation zone. Further details will be shared closer to the event.
Is the event family-friendly?
Absolutely. The Walk is designed for everyone: families with young children, individuals of all ages, workplace teams, and community groups
Is the event accessible?
Yes. We are committed to ensuring the Walk is inclusive and accessible to all participants.

How do I get there?
The event is centred on the Tarpeian Lawn, at the northern end of the Royal Botanic Garden beside the Sydney Opera House, with entry via the Garden's Macquarie Street entrance. The walk starts and finishes on the lawn, which is also where the full day of activities takes place.
Circular Quay is the closest station, about a 7 to 10 minute walk, and is the one hub with trains, ferries and buses all in one place. St James and Martin Place stations are a longer walk from the city end of the Garden.
Paid parking is available nearby, including at the Sydney Opera House car park, though spaces are limited on event days, so we encourage you to book early or travel by public transport.

How do I register?

We would love to have you involved. You will be able to register your interest by completing a volunteer expression of interest form on the website.
How do I fundraise?
You can register on the website as an individual or as a team to funraise.
How does the WPW Rewards Program work?
The WPW Rewards Program recognises your participation throughout the campaign by rewarding both fundraising achievements and campaign engagement.
You can unlock digital badges by completing key milestones, such as creating your fundraising profile, setting a fundraising target, receiving your first donation, growing your team, and achieving fundraising goals.
You'll also earn points for supporting the campaign on social media by resharing official World Partnership Walk content. As your points accumulate, you'll unlock additional social engagement badges.
Participants who achieve milestone badges will also receive exclusive physical pins as a keepsake to celebrate their accomplishments.
The more you participate, fundraise, and help spread the word, the more recognition you'll receive throughout the campaign.
